Wilhelm Wagenfeld

One of the best known Bauhaus classics undoubtedly is the so-called "Wagenfeld lamp". Its timeless design is in perfect harmony with the other designer furniture of our collection.

After an apprenticeship in a silverware factory, from 1923 to 1925 he visited the Bauhaus drawing academy in Hanau. From 1926 onwards he worked as an assistant at the State Academy of Crafts and Architecture in Weimar. After the war he held a short-term professorship at the Academy for Fine Arts in Berlin. After moving to Stuttgart, he founded the "Workshop Wagenfeld" in order to design industrial furniture. In 1978, he withdrew from professional life. His simple designs that strikingly combined aesthetic aspects with practical considerations made Wilhelm Wagenfeld a pioneer of industrial design.
